REAL WEDDING: EMILY AND ANDREW

Here's a bit of beauty for you to indulge in this Monday morning.  Emily and Andrew's Charleston, South Carolina wedding on The Magnolia Plantation has a real mix of Southern traditional as well as original elements you'll find inspiring especially if you're planning a DIY wedding.  My faves in this department are the baby's breath in Mason jars and the cigar bar (even though I detest smoking).  There is something traditional in men having a place to congregate and light up even if it is only for a few puffs.  Loving how beautifully wedding photographer, Carmen Ash has captured all the small and large details  Kudos to her and congrats to Emily and Andrew for planning such a day rich and unique in details . . . .

Only recently has wedding wear for moms achieved any semblence of chic.  I remember a time (80s-90s) when they couldn't find a damn thing out there that didn't make them look like an old matron from a forties flick.  Fast forward 2013.  Come on now, judging by these images these model/moms look more like your beautiful big sis than even the hippest, fiercest momster.  But I do enjoy these picks from Brides UK offering up capsule collections just for mom.  Any one of these ensembles could be reworn to an art opening or gala.  Another thought here: Brides who don't like the "all dressed in white" factor might consider some of these looks.  I mean, do you really have to be an older bride to dress mature . . . . .?  What are your thoughts on this?

REAL WEDDING: KAITLIN AND GABE

  Talk about the ultimate in DIY!  The bride, Kaitlin created all the table tops and found her dresses in vintage clothing stores (Kaitlin BTW was a two dress bride). And when the bride creates wedding cakes for a living, you can only expect cakes, cakes, more cakes. The Frosted Art Bakery staff each made their favorite, and designed the seven tier wedding cake. While Kaitlin and Gabe's  wedding was a late winter one, this kind of originality works any season. . . . .

CREATING A NEW BODICE OUT OF A STRAPLESS

So many choices out there for turning that strapless into something different whether it's a slip on and off option like a bolero or an alteration you make to your dress that turns it into a permanent look.  The easiest transformation you can also make is via jackets, boleros, capelets, shawls.  The above dress with an asymmetrical neckline I can totally see once upon a time as a strapless now with an overlay of tulle added to the shoulder.  Below, an  overblouse/capelet was added to a strapless.
