Well ladies it's that time of year again and I'm moving out my samples to make room for some lovely Spring surprises!  "Valerie" is up for adoption today and I have to tell you this hourglass silhouette with a V-neck and back is an absolute gem in tea-dyed tulle and Chantilly lace.   Pulled together with a gray silk satin belt.

Sample fits Size 6-8. Because it is a sample I only have one.  Fits best on
Bust 34-36
Hips 35-37
waist 25-27
Ankle length on 5'7 and over with stacked heels. Floor length on shorter figures

PRETTY THINGS

Fall is just about here, ushering in all those luxe, opulent fabrics that suggest a certain formality.  Here's Sabrina in the new silk taffeta separates: a silk white bouffant skirt and Audreyesque top cinched with a matching belt. Check out her accessories--a satin pillbox hat and white silk purse.  The shorty gloves add a little something 60s to really pull the look together.

An asymmetrical Chantilly lace and tulle shirred top is paired up with the taffeta skirt.  Still vintage with a dash of  modernesque thrown into the mix . . . .

TERRY FOX

 One of those designers I have on the top of my list is Terry Fox of the UK who has been designing vintage/storybook looks for as long as I can remember.  Her peice de resistance is the corset paired up with big skirts in either tulle and lace or taffeta and satin.  Add a certain shabby chic vintage influence seen here and you get a very original Boho look she's always made her own .  Terry isn't limited though.  She has four other collections on her website worth checking out especially if you love a kind of waif/fairytale look.  For the more contemporary bride check out her Classic with a Twist Collection.  Stunning . . .

ROSES

 

Bravo for Reem Acra who's just premiered Roses, a capsule collection carried exclusively by Nordstrom Wedding Suites.  Roses came out in late June.  Acra has successfully worked out six looks from her signature collection for under 4K.  Yes, you'll see all the same silhouettes now in affordable fabrics. THE MAGIC OF BASIA ZARZYCKA

 For the ultra-romantic bride who lives in London and wants that one gown you won't find anywhere else, Basia Zarzycka on Slone Square is the place to go. AMSALE'S MAIDS

 You know me, always on the lookout for gowns a bridesmaid can actually wear out in public again without coming off like a diva on steroids. Well, Eureka!  Last week while doing research on Amsale's site for my post on pleats I happened across these stunners that frankly could make a drop dead debut at the Opening at the Met.  The dress uptop I'm contemplating on ordering for the symphony opening this year.  The great thing about all these gowns is they come in about as many colors as Crayola crayons and better yet if you're a bride who has her heart set on a color, now you can go for it.  These also come in pearly, blush and vanilla shades for brides who want to do something other than traditional white or ivory . . . . 

PLEAT CHIC

When you think of pleats does your schoolgirl uniform in a Black Watch plaid come to mind? Try again.  Wedding dresses have some of the most pleated skirts and bodices you’ll find and it's about time they had a special post of their very own. Lots of A-line and princess styles in heavier fabrics such as satin, taffeta and moiré have deep (sometimes very deep) box or inverted pleats instead of gathers in the skirt.  Okay so . . . . why use a pleat instead of a gather? Pleats are designed to fall flat in folds through the waist and/or hip area (where the skirt is joined) and not bunch up like gathering does. The result is a well-fitting, uninterrupted line up the bodice with a beautiful and even fullness in the skirt. There's more to pleats than the traditional bodice and skirt treatments.  Here are a few  happenings in bridal and gala I'm loving . . .
